Thank you to Jill for letting me know about this FUN family tradition: Elf on a Shelf. He comes in a box and with a book that tells the story. The breakdown: first the kids name the elf, Brady came up with "Chris" I think because Scott's cousin Chris had just stayed with us. So the elf sits on a shelf, or anywhere for that matter, and watches the kids all day. At night he returns to the North Pole and reports to Santa whether the kids were good or bad. By morning he's back but always in a different spot. The kids love to wake up in the morning and look for Chris. Here's the thing though, you CAN'T forget to move the elf before you go to bed or you've got a lot of explaining to do the next morning. It's just classic to tell the kids "Chris is watching" as they fight over a toy...they stop real quick. Here are a few pics of Chris's journey so far...Wednesday, December 3, 2008

I MUST get me a Chris. When you told me his name was Chris, I thought you meant his name was Kris like Kris Kringle or something along those lines. So just go with that and you will appear super clever.
I sooooo...want to get that! I ran up to Hallmark yesterday, but they are out until Friday :(
Yup..we love our Felty!
What a great idea. Thanks for sharing it and to Jill for coming up with it. Do you think that it will work for Riley and pooping in the potty? This is a definate future tradition for us.
Super funny about the shower! Definitely a cute tradition. I don't know if I can handle the pressure trying to remember to move Elfie every night. Half the time I forget the tooth fairy. I have to make up some lame story of how the $ fell down behind the bed, or how the tooth fairy wanted Daddy to see the tooth.
Ok I saw Jills too and it is just too stinkin cute. I am terrible about those things (I'll keep those tooth fairy excuses handy, Heather!) I must have an elf! He will be keeping track of who is leaving their messes around.
Now I totally get why Brady kept asking me where my elf was at Preschool the other day. I had to tell him he was hiding in the Christmas tree. I think the kids looked for the elf for about 10 minutes. I didn't realize he REALY had an elf at home. He is soooo CUTE! Becky
That is the best idea ever!! I will have to remember that when Jackson gets older:)
